CoN Ujjain and Jabalpur Certified as State Nodal Centres

The Colleges of Nursing at Ujjain and Jabalpur were recently certified as State Nodal Centres (SNCs) post an assessment carried out by a team comprising of Government of India and State Government representatives. The certification, conducted in the month of March, was granted after College of Nursing, Ujjain and Jabalpur, achieved 78% and 71% performance standards respectively.

Following the certification, preparation for their first six weeks trainings began with a 10-day Training of Trainers. In this, a group of ten faculty members from each SNC was introduced to the goals and objective of the six weeks training package– Effective Teaching Skills (ETS), Skilled Birth Attendance (SBA), Integrated Management of Neonatal and Childhood Illness (IMNCI), Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) and HIV along with Standard Based Management and Recognition (SBMR) and clinical exposure at the attached clinical site.

On April 6, 2016, post the effective completion of the required ground work, the first six weeks faculty training on Pre-Service Nursing Education was rolled out in Madhya Pradesh at State Nodal Centre Jabalpur. Inaugurated by Dr. J L Mishra (Director, State Health Services, Madhya Pradesh) along with doctors from the attached clinical site, fifteen participants were trained in this batch. These participants are the nursing teaching staff from different nursing schools of the state. The training is being conducted by trained faculty members of the SNC with constant mentoring support being provided by Jhpiego.

At the inauguration, Dr. Mishra stressed on the need to strengthen the nursing education system right from the basic level and the nurse’s role as a primary care provider. He advised participants to take maximum advantage of this wonderful learning opportunity being provided to them.

Mrs. Abha Oriel, Principal, State Nodal centre, Jabalpur, also extended her support to all the participants and briefed them about the training schedule. The participants were immensely excited to be a part of the training and are finding it to be a great learning experience.

With support from the Norway India Partnership Initiative (NIPI), Jhpiego is providing technical assistance to the Government of Madhya Pradesh and other NIPI high focus states to strengthen pre-service education for the nursing and midwifery cadre.

The six weeks training at the SNC, Ujjain is scheduled to start in the third week of May.
